About Me
Love Music Making.

Charlotte Champneys
BA (Hons), MA
I'm a mezzo-soprano, conductor and pianist based in Stirchley, Birmingham. I teach piano and singing lessons to students of all ages and abilities. If you are aiming to take ABRSM exams, Trinity exams or Rockschool graded exams I will prepare you for them. If you simply want to develop and enjoy playing your instrument or learn to read music I will offer lessons to cater to your needs.

My Ethos
I believe that when a student is passionate about playing their instrument, not only will they make more progress as a musician, but the skills and confidence that they gain can also make a real positive difference in many other aspects of their lives.

I believe in helping students to enjoy making music, to grow in confidence as performers and to develop in all aspects of their musicianship - whether that is in playing, composing, music theory or performance.

Lessons I Offer
I offer one-to-one lessons, group lessons and parent and child group lessons. I offer music theory training (up to Grade 5) as part of your music lessons or as a stand-alone lesson. I also offer choir conducting services, singing workshop services, and piano accompaniment (please contact me below for more information about these services).
Experience
Having previously worked with Services for Education in Birmingham, Music for Everyone in Nottingham and several music projects in Sheffield, I have over 8 years of piano and singing teaching experience in schools and privately. I have a first-class honours degree in Music and Chinese from the University of Sheffield. I have ABRSM Grade 8 Piano (Distinction) and received advanced vocal and piano performance training as part of my music degree. I also have choral conducting training from Sing for Pleasure and am an alto member of award-winning choir, Choros Amici.

Safeguarding
I hold a clear Enhanced DBS Certificate dated June 2022.

Lessons I Provide (In Person and Online)
Love music, love learning.
Piano Lessons
Build skill and grow your passion for piano.
Whether you are a beginner who wants to progress all the way to Grade 8 or an adult who wants to learn to play your favourite songs I can offer piano lessons to suit you. I teach students aged 6 (Year 2) and upwards.
I teach with the Hal Leonard Piano Books for primary school aged beginners and with a wide variety of other resources for teens and adults, which can be tailored to suit your needs.

I prepare students for ABRSM and Rockschool exams if they wish to work towards them.
I also specialise in teaching classically trained pianists to play the piano using guitar chords.
Singing Lessons
Develop your voice and build confidence.
I teach mid-high voices of all ages and teach many different genres - from classical to pop.
I want to help you to feel confident in your voice and will focus on strengthening and developing your voice so that you can love singing as a soloist, in your choir, your band or even in your school play!

I will work with you to prepare for ABRSM exams, Trinity or Rockschool if you wish to study singing grades.

I specialise in giving personalised parent and child lessons (1 parent + 1-2 children) as a fun musical activity. This type of lesson builds musical confidence in both the parent and child and strengthens their friendship. This lesson can suit younger children who may be less comfortable singing by themselves.
